Welcome to the Afghan American Family Alliance

We are group of individuals brought together with a simple purpose:Keep Afghan Families Safe. Keep Afghan Families Together. We are a non-religious, non-politically affiliated organization whose end goal is to raise funds and provide boots on the ground facilitation to support the safety, housing, education and resettlement of Afghan families.

The reality of Afghanistan and the future for its people if they remain is dire. Some facts:

--41% under age 5 affected by stunted growth

--4 in 10 pass away before their first birthday

--Maternal mortality is one of the highest in the world.

--Access to prenatal care is almost non-existent yet women are encouraged and expected to continue having multiple children

--malnutrition and lack of food is part of daily life for most children in Afghanistan.

--it is estimated that at least half of children born since 2018 have some form of intellectual disability or physical disability.

--with an average age of marriage of 20, in less than a century most of Afghanistan will have a disability of some kind.

How can a nation develop and defend itself when its population does not have the physical or cognitive capacity.

Our
Story

Founded in 2023, the Afghan American Family Alliance is a grassroots non-profit  supporting families in their local communities.

Moving to a new country with nothing is scary. Leaving with just the clothes on their back with complete uncertainty about what comes next, Afghan refugees and immigrants need support. The Afghan American Family Alliance is here to help new arrivals through friendship, advocacy and help with appointments and accessing local services, housing assistance, school support for children, and meeting basic needs like food and clothing.

It is with mixed feelings that the Afghan people make their way to America. The security of America is overshadowed knowing their family in Afghanistan is still threatened every day by violations of human rights, abuse of women, sudden imprisonment of men, executions, no income, food insecurity and lack of access to education, internet and the outside world. Not knowing where they will sleep or how they will eat, the voyage to America is sad and scary.

Resources About the Current State of Afghanistan

Afghanistan continues to be one of the most dangerous places in the world to be a baby, a child or a mother. High rates of infant and maternal mortality continue to impact this country. Most of the causes behind this are preventable and related to lack of pre-natal care, malnutrition, lack of food, disease and inaccessible education for women.

Malnutrition is the silent enemy of Afghanistan. The effects of malnutrition are devastating and long lasting through generations. It creates cognitive disabilities, stunts growth, perpetuates poverty, and is directly linked to physical and mental illness. In Afghanistan, 41% of children under 5 have stunted growth.

Access to education has always been difficult for women in Afghanistan. However, Taliban take over has made this even more challenging. Girls can no longer access education past the 6th grade, and there are reports even this is being prevented. Women are hardly able to meet the requirements and laws to go out in public and are housebound. It is also starting to impact boys being denied access to high school education as well. The long term implications of a nation with high rates of intellectual disabilities from malnutrition paired with lack of access to education if a devastating and disastrous long term outcome for the nation.
